Art Installation

This installation, in the foyer of the FIH (Finance for Danish Industry) Headquarters on Langelinie, Copenhagen, was completed along with the building in May 2002, and is the largest visual art commission Steven Scott has completed to date.

Langelinie is a two-sided harbour front projecting like a peninsula into the Port of Copenhagen. The foyer of the building is a six-storey glass atrium containing glass elevators and a suspended glass and steel staircase.

The core of the art installation is light that slowly shifts colour and position throughout the day and night. When the elevators are activated to move between certain floors, they trigger an electronic program which in turn creates an intervention in the art installation.

The two light works are about 20 m tall and project up through the atrium from the ground to the sixth floor. They are ladders of light. From inside the building, there is a panoramic view of the ocean, connecting the horizon line of the art work to the natural horizon line outside.
